Intro
My translation | Official translation |
---|---|
1995. | Announcing the 1995 King of Fighters tournament. The event will be conducted as the previous one. |
I will host King of Fighters. | |
The format will be a team match, same as the previous year. | |
I pray that all former participants will return. | And we welcome both new and old victims-er, teams. |
That's all... [R] | Break a spine, R... |
I broke this up screen by screen because it makes the formatting a bit nicer and it's easier to see. That "1995" all on its own in a paragraph would look terrible, but it's not so bad as part of an attract mode. But they absorbed it into the next sentence anyway in the official version, plus adding in the sentence after that on the same screen. It cuts the number of screens, but it does make the translation sound a lot more natural. If I was doing this for real I'd at least combine the first two sentences, and I didn't here so you can see the difference more clearly.
The last couple lines add in some goofy jokes, as we all expect by now. It is interesting that Japanese Rugal just hopes all previous participants will return, while English Rugal explicitly wants new ones. English Rugal's thinking ahead.
This loses two screens in English, and you can even see exactly where.
Bonus Ending
My translation |
---|
1996... |
A new fate... |
A new battle... |
And... |
A new King of Fighters...! |
SEE YOU NEXT KING OF FIGHTERS |
Kishi told me about this ending and got all the images. Thank you!
This is the ending you get on the Japanese console ports if you beat it on one credit. It was cut from all the overseas versions, probably because it's a short tease for KoF96 and we didn't need that by the time the console ports made it overseas.
So enjoy this small bonus. The ending itself is very simple, but hey, it's there.
