King of Fighters 95

King of Fighters 95 was a general upgrade to KoF94, with new dodge abilities, charging, and the ability to edit teams. It expanded the story of the previous game, added hints for the upcoming games and introduced fan favorite Iori Yagami. KoF95 was a step above 94 on just about every level.

This is also where the editor first got a hold of KoF. Win quotes now have that distinctive SNK touch, and we have classics like "So long, weenie king" in the game. Sadly, for the first time in an SNK game, the script is majorly cut down from the Japanese version. Cutscenes have fewer screens in English (as opposed to Art of Fighting 2, which added them) and while characters have win quotes for every other canonical team in Japanese, only the edit team win quotes were translated into English. It's quite a shame.

But while that means a lot more work for me, I am pretty pleased to be bringing the full set of win quotes for every character into English for the first time. It took almost 30 years, but we got get there in the end!

...that said, I'm pretty glad SNK dropped unique quotes for every team after 95. For 96 and later games, characters would only have a set of 4-5 quotes for particular teams. (and, of course, none of those came over to English) I guess even the developers got sick of that amount of work for what was quickly shaping up to be an annual series.
